Best Video Card for a 150$ Budget {Help me out!}

hey guys im looking for the best possible card i can get for my system thats about 150$ or under ANY help appreciated.. wiht X-mas coming up soon its time for me to make a desicion. my specs are..

Asus A7n8x mother board
1 gig of OC'ing Dual Channel ram
AMD Athlon XP3000+ proccessor

I have my eye on the ATI Radeon 9800pro right now..... and im currently using the radeon 9600se wich sucks......

radeon 9800 pro is a good bet. on the nvidia camp, the 6600GT's should be around $150 as well.

Radeon X700 Pro also has a good price/performance ratio, while the AGP version of it costs a little bit more than PCIe.

Radeon 9800 Pro is indeed a good choice too, but be careful about the inner airflow as this card gets extremely hot.

220$ for the radeon x700 pro is a little steep but id be willing to get one for that much if its worth the extra 100$.. almost twice as much, do you think it would be worth paying almost double the price? im gonna read some reviews and compare the two.



EDIT: eesh just looked again and found a different one for 160, definetly better\

EDIT2: Even FURTHER looking and there really was no 160 wtf lol... im gonna keep searchin >_+

actually, i have X700 Pro myself (it's PCIe tho), got one for 13000 JPY, which is roughly US$110.

try pricewatch.com, they prolly has one around that price range, even for AGP versions.

I Decided on the ATI Radeon X800 pro, looks like areally nice deal, and its 200$ so i decided on that...

im wondering now , for future reference, if Pci Express cards can go into regular PCI slots? i wanna start saving money now for this :

id use it in my pci slot until i have enough for a new processor for the mother board i need to use it >_<

right now my mother board dosent have PCI-E so if i wanted to get one with PCI-E id have to upgrade my motherdoard AND processor. so until i can do the MB and cpu i was wondering if i can use it in my PCI slot

and if it can work in a regular PCI slot, what are the downsides?

no. PCI and PCI Express r 2 different things, and have different physical specifications, thus not backwards compatible.

btw, depending on ur CPU mobo upgrade might not have to mean CPU upgrade at the same time. if u r using P4 or A64, chances r u could find a PCIe mobo compatible for ur CPU. (but for old P4, ones not LGA775, it might be a better idea to upgrade CPU as well for the performance issue.)

ill also vouch for the 9800pro... had mine for 2 years i believe... but now its time to upgrade... if you do mild gaming the 9800pro will do you great.... but if your like me and do some hardcore gaming... youll need something with more power... sucks that im stuck with an agp port tho... oh well... x850xt pe for me
